This is a unusual gripe in that it regards a product I have not used. I have not seen anyone else use it either.
My interest in the VMware product was peaked by reading about it (somewhere). It sounded like an interesting product, so I went to their web site to read more about it. A virtual machine program is not like any other application, it's unique and takes a bit of explaining. Someone only familiar with personal computers may have a hard time grasping just what a virtual machine product is. My mainframe background made it easy to understand, but the product description on the VMware web site, left me with a few questions. Answering these questions is what prompted this gripe.
The web site lists an email address of tech_info@vmware.com for Presale Product and Tech Inquiries. That's me.
July 8, 2000. I email a question to the above email address. No answer.
July 23, 2000. I email a question again to tech_info@vmware.com. No answer.
August 4, 2000. I email a question to tech_info@vmware.com. No answer.
September 1, 2000. I email a question to tech_info@vmware.com. No answer.
September 11, 2000. I'm getting annoyed. Wouldn't you? I email the webmaster and say that since nobody responds to messages sent to tech_info@vmware.com that it should be removed from the web site. I also send a technical question to sales@vmware.com. Later that day I get a response. Not from the webmaster. Not from the sales department. From tech_info. Go figure. The response requested further clarification of my question.
September 12, 2000. I respond to VMware with the clarification of my question. No answer (as of October 17, 2000).
October 3, 2000. I emailed a question to sales@vmware.com. No answer. .
Perhaps their employees are virtual too.
